World Footprints talks to best selling author Dr. Gary Chapman about his book, “The 5 Love Languages” and he'll walk us through the different languages that every couple should know. This book has been on the New York Times bestsellers list for the last 20 years, and has now been translated in 40 different languages. Dr. Chapman joins World Footprints to talk about his experiences teaching new love languages around the world.
Then, we’ll introduce you to Colin Salisbury, founder of Global Volunteer Network. He joins us to talk about how his organization is connecting people with communities throughout the world.

World Footprints revisits South Africa to explore the country that Nelson Mandela built and we'll cross the border into Eritrea.
Our journey will take us through the world of fine art and will focus on the transformative power of art with Martin Britz, President and Founder of Soweto Fine Art, will join us from Johannesburg to talk about his personal journey from an Afrikaner military officer to a champion for black South African artists. Martin will share some unique insights into the people, culture, and South African society today; and he’ll talk about his quest to promote and empower the diverse people on the African continent and expose its art treasures to the world.
Then we’ll travel back to Maryland for a visit to Galerie Myrtis to chat with several prominent art collectors who gathered to discuss the topics of cultural preservation through art collecting, connoisseurship and philanthropy. Based in Baltimore, Galerie Myrtis features works by African, African-American and emerging artists with a mission to utilize the visual arts to raise awareness for artists who deserve recognition for their contributions in artistically portraying our historic and cultural landscape; and recognize art movements that paved the way for freedom of artistic expression.

Many Americans are familiar with the slave revolts led by John Brown and Nat Turner, but the story of the greatest act of slave resistance in American history took place in 1811 and has remained largely untold, until now. Daniel Rasmussen, acclaimed author of American Uprising: The Untold Story of America’s Largest Slave Revolt has pulled back the curtain on a long neglected period in New Orleans and he joins World Footprints to discuss his research and provide a glimpse into the history of slavery in the South and our nation’s path to Civil War.
Then, Bradley Myles, Executive Director and CEO of Polaris Project joins World Footprints. Named after the North Star that guided slaves towards freedom along the Underground Railroad, Polaris Project has been providing a comprehensive approach to combating human trafficking and modern-day slavery since 2002. Polaris Project has created the National Human Trafficking hotline in order to combat human trafficking.
Finally, meet SEAsoned chef Victoria Allman. Many people have wondered what it’s like to live on a super-yacht that cruises the oceans and docks in exotic ports around the world and Victoria Allman tells all in her new book, SEAsoned: A Chef’s Journey with her Captain. Victoria joins World Footprints to offer a first-hand account of her journey as a yacht chef with her husband Patrick on his first assignment as Captain. Today on World Footprints we’ll enjoy some Wayward and hair-raising travel experiences with a true Vagabond and we’ll look at a new travel service that has gone to the dogs.
First, author and Matador Network editor Tom Gates will give us a “sample” (no pun) of a few of his personal eyebrow-raising travel stories in his new book Wayward: Fetching Tales from a Year on the Road. Tom will share how Anthony Bourdain is responsible for his sampling of “mans best friend” and why he ended up in the pokey at Heathrow International Airport. Those stories are just a few of what we’ll hear.
Next you’ll meet Mike Richard, founding editor of the popular website Vagabondish.com—a travel portal for the independent traveler and free spirit. Mike absconded from corporate America to pursue his passion for travel and to help others travel wisely.
Finally, Aaron Hirschorn’s career has gone to the dogs—literally. Aaron and his wife Karine created a new service, DogVacay.com that provides travelers with host homes that will care for their dogs while traveling.

Today we’ll embark on an around the world race with skipper Donald Lawson, we’ll journey among the people of the rainforest with Maya Roads author Mary Jo McConahay and we’ll explore what it means to be an ethical designer in the fashion house of Aidah Fontenot.
Skipper Donald Lawson is making history on the water. He is one of just a few African-American professional sailors who holds the titles skipper and captain and is working towards breaking barriers in the sport of sailing. Donald Lawson anticipates becoming the first African American sailor to race around the world solo but his first stop will be on World Footprints. before he embarks we’re going to try to convince him that he must take this adventure radio crew with.
As a young woman studying Spanish in Mexico in the 1970s, Mary Jo McConahay fell in love with the haunting beauty and mystery of the rainforest. Determined to experience the jungle firsthand, Mary Jo traveled solo through the beautiful wild region that spans southern Mexico and northern Guatemala. That first trip was the beginning of her life’s work and adventures in Central America. Mary Jo’s newest book, Maya Roads: One Woman’s Journey Among the People of the Rainforest, draws upon three decades in Central America’s remote and dangerous landscapes where she traveled, lived, and worked as a war correspondent.
Aidah Fontenot wears many artistic hats. With over 16 years of experience and training, she continues to raise the bar in the artistic genres of fine art, photography, graphic and fashion design. Aidah is most recognized as an ethical fashion designer. Her Aidah Collection supports a “green mission” to empower women and protect the environment. The collection is handmade locally with natural and recycled materials and many designs have been spotted on the red carpet.
